How to calculate your life path number

· 2 min read · By Claudia

Your life path number is the first number I look at in any reading. It comes from your full date of birth, and it describes the main direction of your life: the lessons that keep returning, and the kind of work and relationships that feel like home.

Reduce each part of the date

Take your day, month and year of birth, and reduce each one to a single digit by adding its digits together.

Worked example · 14 March 1987
Day14 → 1 + 4
5
MonthMarch, month 3
3
Year1987 → 1 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 25 → 2 + 5
7

5 + 3 + 7 = 15 → 1 + 5 =Life path 6

Add them and reduce again

Add the three results and reduce once more: 5 + 3 + 7 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6.

This person walks a 6 life path. It points to care and responsibility: someone others lean on. Part of the reading is finding where that energy serves them, and where it asks too much.

A note on 11, 22 and 33

In the Pythagorean tradition, 11, 22 and 33 are master numbers. If one of them appears at the final step, it is usually kept rather than reduced, because it carries a stronger version of its root number.

What the number does not tell you

A life path number shows tendencies, not a fixed script. Two people with the same number can live very different lives. That is why a full reading also looks at your birth day, your name and the year you are in.
